OUR PHILOSOPHY
Each and every horse is trained to their own individual ability. The horses trained at our facility will be trained to achieve success, with their natural abilities as equine athletes as the focus. Verstegen Cutting Horses centers their training on the key elements of a proper foundation to promote the ability of each horse to have a life long and lucrative career in the sport of cutting.

2 year old program
Our 2-Year-Old Program consists of all of the key elements and the proper foundation to ensure the successful training of any aged event horse. Our philosophy is training each horse to the best of its individual ability. With a 99% success rate of training money earners, we confidently stand behind our program.
The Program:
- The key element to this program is that Cameron Verstegen does ALL of the 2-year-old training, from start to finish
- Horses enter 2-year-old training on or around November 1st of the year preceding their 2-year-old year
- Ground work is the foundation to any successful training and will be implemented in length prior to riding
- All riding will be performed to build confidence in each and every horse
- Horses will also be ridden outside, in the mountains, gathering cattle and will be exposed to all general ranch activities throughout their time with Verstegen Cutting Horses
- Once a horse is sufficiently broke and confident the horse will be introduced to working the flag
- The flag is used to guide and teach the horse the correct movements needed to start working cattle
- Cattle and/or buffalo are introduced only after the horse has shown confidence and proper body movement while working the flag
- 2-year-olds will be hauled to shows in the fall of their 2-year-old year, we have found it to be tremendously beneficial to their success
- Confidence and the horses' success is the foundation that is built with every step of our training process
